Kiwi are versatile and taste good cut up and eaten in slices or in a dessert, smoothie or salad.

How to buy: Choose kiwi fruit that are firm with no wrinkles, bruises or other exterior damage. The big kiwis taste just as good (and the same) as the small ones.

How to store: Store unripe fruit at room temperature until the skin indents slightly when touched. Kiwis take about 3 - 5 days to ripen at room temperature.

You can hasten ripening by placing the fruit in a vented paper bag with an apple or banana. This helps to reduce moisture loss. Kiwis that start to lose their water content do not taste very good.

Ripe kiwis can be kept in the refrigerator for up to four weeks.

Eating: There are a few ways to eat these amazing, furry fruits. Some people eat them skin and all - this gets more vitamins and fiber into your system, as they are mostly in the skin.

They can be sliced in half and the fruit scooped out, peeled or cut into slices.
