Homemade Yogurt

Try serving your children the freshest possible yogurt - homemade yogurt! Yogurt is a nice morning, afternoon or evening treat for kids.

This recipe is really easy, and gives you a "cheat" by making use of ready-made active culture yogurt.

This is one of the tasty and healthy snacks for kids. It's also one of the elements of our yogurt fruit dip recipes.

What you need:.homemade yogurt with strawberry and cherries

  • 1 quart whole milk
  • 4 tbsp (1/4 cup) active-culture plain yogurt
  • Candy thermometer

What you do:

  • Warm the milk in a saucepan over medium heat (don't let it scorch!) until it reaches 180F
  • Let the milk cool to 110F
  • Stir in the yogurt, about 1 tbsp for each cup of milk.
  • Let stand in a warm place (106F to 108F) for 8 hours (there are yogurt machines made for this purpose that don't cost a lot; a gas oven with the pilot light on also works).
  • Refrigerate the finished yogurt for up to 5 days.
