Pies can be loosely traced back to the ancient Egyptians; where the bakers to the pharaohs mixed nuts, honey, and fruit in bread dough, which is a primitive form of pastry.
Historians think that the Greeks were the ones to actually come up with how to make pie pastry, which was a simple water and flour paste to wrap around meat to seal in juices, and help to cook it.
No matter who came up with it, it was a good idea and I for one am glad that they did! This is my absolute favorite dessert, and every year I have it for my birthday instead of the traditional cake.
