Fruit Cake Hints

Fruit cake hints to help you make the very best fruit cake.

  • Dried fruit makes cake batter stiff, as it soaks up the moisture from the cake. Add a tablespoon or two of water to prevent this from happening.
  • Don't fill cake pans more than two thirds full.
  • Always allow cake to cool completely in pan after baking before removing.
  • Cake should age at least a month before frosting.
  • Store cake in a layer of plastic wrap, with another layer of aluminum foil over top. Place in an airtight container and store at room temperature.
  • Slice fruit cake with a thin, sharp knife dipped in hot water to prevent fruit from sticking.
